NEA rules every jobseeker should know before working abroad
Thousands of Kenyans work abroad happily every year. The ones who run into trouble almost always skipped the basics. Kenya's National Employment Authority (NEA) exists to protect you — here's what that means in practice.
Only use a licensed agency
Overseas recruitment must be handled by an NEA-licensed agency. Ask for the licence number and verify it. A legitimate agency will never dodge this question.
You should not pay to get a job
Be very cautious of anyone demanding large upfront 'placement fees'. Genuine costs (medical, passport, sometimes a ticket) are limited and transparent. Never pay cash without a receipt.
Read the contract before you fly
- Confirm salary, job title, hours and contract length in writing
- Your contract should be vetted before departure
- Complete your pre-departure medical and orientation
- Keep copies of every document and your agency's contacts
At Easy Gate, every placement is processed under NEA regulations with vetted contracts and a full pre-departure briefing — because a job abroad should change your life for the better, safely.
