Your first safari: a simple packing list
A Kenyan safari is one of those trips that lives up to every expectation — but a little preparation makes it far more comfortable. After years of sending travellers into the bush, here is the short, honest list we give everyone.
Wear earth tones
Stick to neutral colours — khaki, olive, brown and beige. Bright colours and pure white stand out to wildlife, and dark blue and black can attract tsetse flies. Pack layers: mornings on a game drive are cold, midday is hot.
The essentials
- Wide-brim hat, sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen
- A light fleece or jacket for early drives
- Closed walking shoes and comfortable sandals
- Refillable water bottle and any personal medication
- Binoculars and a camera with spare batteries
- Insect repellent and a small first-aid kit
Leave it at home
You won't need formal wear, a drone (they're restricted in parks), or a hard suitcase — soft duffel bags are easier in safari vehicles and light aircraft. And don't over-pack: most camps offer same-day laundry.
Booking with Easy Gate means your park fees, transfers and expert guide are already sorted — you just bring the sense of wonder.
